Tiger BehavioR

Tigers are highly endangered due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and poaching, and most tiger habitat exists in multiple-use forests where human activity dominates, making protected areas alone insufficient for long-term population survival. Understanding tiger-human interactions in these landscapes is difficult through fieldwork alone, so modeling provides a quantitative framework to simulate tiger behavior, prey dynamics, and human impacts across diverse scenarios. TIGMOD, an individual-based, object-oriented GIS model, was developed to predict tiger population trends, evaluate prey requirements, and explore strategies for balancing conservation with sustainable forest use.
